Radial symmetry is common in nature. Outside of the orchid family, most flowers are built on radial symmetry. This fanciful nine-spoked design looks very little like an actual sunflower, but the bright colors call to mind summer days and sunflowers.
This is the yellow piece in a set of eight mandala-like collages (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown, and black) made for the traveling Rainbow Show exhibition by Philadelphia Collageworks.
